According to one analyst, in 2017, solar power generator power storage projects developed in Europe jumped nearly 50%, but they accounted for a larger share of the growing battery back-end battery system.

The headline news of the June monthly report jointly released by the research company Delta-EE and the European Energy Storage Alliance shows that compared with 2016 (about 400MW), the total market growth including the back end of the meter and the industrial and commercial front-end grid projects in 2017 49%, close to 600MWh.

Valts Grintals, senior analyst at Delta-EE Energy Storage Research, told Energy-Storage.news that this substantial increase was largely in line with expectations. However, perhaps the most significant finding is that the growth of the Italian and German household markets exceeded expectations, while the industrial and commercial market “started to take off”.

Some of the UK's enhanced frequency response projects, which are scheduled to be connected to the grid at the end of 2017, were postponed to the beginning of 2018. As a result, the front-end market of the meter was slightly underperforming. Compared with the predicted installed capacity, the total installed capacity of completed projects decreased by 90MWh. Delta-EE analysts said that when considering the expected total installed capacity of the meter front-end system, the key dynamic parameters of the market size depend on the top-down planning process.

"Like the value trends they want to mine, the meter front-end market tends to fluctuate. Therefore, in a market, the frequency response opportunity becomes saturated and then begins to decline."
