Home Storage Battery Market In Australia

Author: Source: Datetime: 2016-10-10 17:14:01
Leading battery companies LG Chem (OTC:LGCLF), Panasonic (OTCPK:PCRFY) and Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) were successful in the initial pilot round of the Australian Capital Territory's program to install 36MW of battery storage. The next round is pending, and there are 17 bids competing for 5 places to deliver 2MW of battery storage across 600 homes and businesses. Bids must provide a minimum 10-year warranty and the suppliers must commit to establishing local sales and support. Apparently there is strong geographic and technical diversity in the bids, although the companies are not yet disclosed. This gives a sense of the level of interest in the Australian home storage market. The storage market include solar powered portable generator market.

The context for this program is that the Australian Capital territory has a 100% renewable energy target for 2020 and is currently considering 200MW of large-scale renewable energy bids to complete this. While the Australian Capital Territory is a leader in the renewable energy transition in Australia, there are many other battery developments happening around the country.

While Australia has a small population, it is well down the path of adopting solar PV on residential and corporate roofs, and this in turn is leading to adoption of battery storage to broaden the effective period for self-produced power. Our LiFePo4 battery pack can be used in battery storage.
