Wood Mackenzie Power & Renewables senior energy storage analyst Rory McCarthy told participants that the commercial case of using renewable energy instead of natural gas to generate electricity after solar power and wind power costs have fallen is even more compelling.
The business case is also improving due to the significant increase in battery storage capacity and the US's leadership in operational and planned capacity.
Today, the global battery storage capacity is about 6GWh, but Wood Mackenzie expects to increase by more than 10 times by 2022, at least to 65GWh. As its technology is more mature, the United States will continue to lead this market expansion.
