On Wednesday, the French Minister of Ecology Ségolène Royal announced that the solar road was officially put into use. It covers a total length of 1 km, covering 3,000 square feet (about 279 square meters), the cost is as high as 5.2 million US dollars (about 36.1 million yuan). In the future, this road will provide enough power for nearby street lamps.
According to reports, in order to reduce vehicle wear caused by the road, the portable solar power generator panels are covered with a layer of silicon-based resin. If its performance in line with expectations, Royal hopes to build on the highway in France, 1,000 km of similar roads.
However, this solar road is also facing some problems. First of all, the solar panels in the flat can produce energy than the tilt placed. At the same time, its cost is also much higher than the traditional solar panels.
Colas, the technology company responsible for building the road, said it currently has about 100 solar road projects around the world. In the future, they also hope to further reduce the cost of solar power batteries panels.
Solar Roadway is another technology company specializing in solar roads. Earlier this year, they installed a few solar panels on Route 66 in Conway, Missouri. But the project faces the same problems as France: high to unbearable construction costs.
